The big day is looming fast and
preparations are well under way. This year we have decided to reduce the
number of pipers and drummers playing to ease the strain on band members
commitment and availability. We are however, pleased to have with
us the Roger Drurey School of Highland Dancing. They will be playing a
central part of the pipes and drums display.
This year is the 90th
anniversary of the home and special celebrations have been included in
the program.
Bands taking part this year are
Surrey Pipe Band and the Wessex Highlanders along with
individual representatives of other local bands.
There are two shows: Matinee at
14.00 and evening performance at 19.00.

Fort Nelson is the home to the artillery collection of the
Royal Armouries - the National Museum of Arms and Armour. The
tattoo is set against the backdrop of Fort Nelson. Built between 1862
and 1871, the fort was constructed as part of a defensive chain to
provide protection around Portsmouth from the 'old enemy' the French.
The Royal Star & Garter
Home has been devoted to the care of disabled sailors and soldiers
since it first opened its doors in 1916. In1918 airmen were admitted and
many years later, in 1986, disabled ex-service women became eligible for
admission to the home. No distinction is made between those injured on
active service and those disabled through accidents or illness in
civilian life; the same high quality of care is given to all. The home
aims to provide a real home, to meet individual needs and to help all
the residents lead full and active lives despite their physical
disabilities.
